Beard, Wives, Denim. That's the name of Pond's new album. I've been listening to several tracks of that album for some time now, but the recently released vid for "You Broke My Cool" made me fall in love with this song even more. It's electric and best enjoyed loud. Like what you hear? Stream the entire new album by following this link.
There's some raging reviews on the entire album Hundred Waters released earlier this year and you can hear almost the entire album via YouTube, which makes easily clear this is something special. For me, out of all the tracks I've heard these last few days, Wonderboom is my favourite! The floundering beats combined with the great vocals make it something mesmerizing.
Later this month OCHO is releasing their debut album Young Hunting and based on the amount of great songs on their soundcloud-page this is shaping up to be a great release. It's dreamy soundscapes and amazing vocalists.
No one other than James Vincent McMorrow suggested this band on his twitter and when someone with such a beautiful record suggest an album, I have to listen. One does not simply ignore a music tip from a new found hero. And as you can listen for yourself, OCHO makes overwhelming music. "Deep River" is probably my favourite song, but this is an album with only highlights. Every new song that starts playing shapes up to be my favourite song, untill the last notes die out and the next beauty takes me by storm.
These 3 tracks clearly show the diversity of this collective. And their capacity to produce amazing songs, that'll suck you in and refuse to let you go. I've been listening to exactly one band all evening so far: OCHO. I recommend you do the same, you won't regret it.
Last Thursday morning we've watched Let It Go, the 1st video for Fossil Collective's upcoming debut album. This Thursday you can hear them cover "The Power of Love", originally done by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. And it's a great cover. Sweet atmospheric voices, nice up-tempo groove, perfectly dreamy and danceable. Love it!
It's exactly 2 weeks since I first heard the"Coming Home EP by Arbor Glades and I've been enjoying it a little more every day. At 1st I didn't think it was thát special, but it has a certain joy over it. A Summervibe like last years "Days" by Real Estate also had. Coming Home is not very much like that great Real Estate-album, but the sunny surf-vibes definately ring a few bells from time to time.
The sound is more oldschool surf though, and less distinctive. Real Estate has that special sound that makes it easy to spot their songs in a crowd (in a figure of speech, that is). Arbor Glades is not there yet, but this is a promising (first?) step. There's 5 great tracks on this free EP and that's more than enough to get to know this band and enjoy what they've released back in January. For their next step, I'm hoping on a Summer-release!
Fossil Collective is releasing their debut EP on June 11th and here's the video for the lead track "Let It Go". It's a refreshing song that'll help you start up with a smile on a boring Thursday morning, and the video is at least as beautiful as the song.
So this is the power of vinyl. Ordered this album last week on Monday and have the digital version on my laptop and mp3-player for over a week now. Listened to it a few times and wasn't really into it. But then I received the vinyl yesterday, put it on my brand new record player and it was instant love. Maybe it's the magic of the record player, maybe it's the magic of the music, maybe a little bit of both. Fact is, since I first heard the album yesterday evening, I've been listening to it on just about every music player I have.
Roman Ruins is Graham Hill. A 31-year old architect. Hill played drums with several bands and started writing his debut record Homebuilding while being on tour in Europe. Far away from his 1st time pregnant wife. Although I usually ignore the stories behind the music and prefer to let the music tell it's own tale, reading this little story added something extra to the music.
Homebuilding is a minimal electronic singer-songwriter album. If that even is a somewhat suitable description for it. I don't really know, and I certainly don't care. This is a very special album, although I have to admit I've just fallen in love with it 26 hours ago. And the thing with love is; it's most intense, when just awoken. We'll see how far and long this love will be with me. Based on the last 26 hours, I'd say this beautiful record and me have a bright and longlasting future ahead of us!
Former The Constantines-frontman Bry Webb has released his 1st solo-album last month and although thís song is a bit older already, it is a true beauty. And it has been playing almost daily for over the last 3 months now. It was about time I shared it with you!
