02-07-2014: Must-Have of the Month Bridie Jackson & The Arbour - New Skin

The album title for the 2nd Bridie Jackson and the Arbour fits the music perfectly. The band has evolved themselves massively and taken on a new skin with their 2nd record. They have succesfully shifted their sound to become easier on the ears without loosing that special something that makes Bridie Jackson and the Arbour completely unique.

Although the album is softer and lighter, it still sounds dark and romantic with a haunting twist. Since their (extremely beautiful) debut record the band has grown a lot. The harmonies of their voices are working together on a higher level and the band sounds more like a team. The album didn't hit me as hard as the previous record did, but I am too familair with their sound for them to surprise me (unless they release a death metal record with dance beats next year).

This new record is a huge step forward for the band without loosing anything from that unique sound that makes Bridie Jackson and the Arbour one of a kind. Each song takes my breath away and I can easily listen to this day and night for weeks to come. The best thing a great band like Bridie Jackson and the Arbour could do was release a record like this. I am so much in love with it, I take it with me everywhere I go.

Beautiful. Beautiful. Record.

28-06-2014: Track Nils Frahm - Says (Vessels remix)

One highly addictive weekend track.

26-06-2014: Album The Coppertone - The Bakery

MY favorite rockchick released an EP exactly one month ago and I've been listening to it everyday since then. Four great songs, all heavily addictive. "Young Blood" was already a banger of a song, but the new songs are all pure blues rock songs with a female twist and Red aka The Coppertone has an amazing voice. This record, like most blues rock, is best enjoyed loud. But enjoy it, you will. I'll guarantee it.

There's not much to say about some records, you just turn up your stereo and enjoy the fuck out of it! Just like I've been doing for the last 31 days, just like I'm doing now! Great EP, can't wait for a full album of this talented musician that is finally making new waves for herself.

25-06-2014: Track Little Tybee - Don't Quit Your Day Job

New Little Tybee music! Can this day get any better?! I don't think so!
Great song, cool video. Great to get a look at the people behind For Distant Viewing, one of the finest records of 2013.

24-06-2014: Track Bridie Jackson & The Arbour - We Talked Again

Usually don't post videos for songs that have already been on the blog, but I'll gladly make an exception for Plug in, Baby!-sweethearts Bridie Jackson & The Arbour's video for "We Talked Again". Released about a month ago, pretty much around the time their beautiful second album New Skin was released. We'll get to that later, first have a look at this dramatic video and listen to the beautiful voices of one of the finest music revelations in years.

22-06-2014: Album John Moreland - In The Throes

This record is a little over a year old, but it's such a beauty it still deserves attention from us music lovers. John Moreland is singer-songwriter from Oklahoma who plays almost all instruments on this pure and warm americana folk record. This record is said to be his finest so far, I haven't listened to his previous recordings yet, but In The Throes is a beauty.

His slow sanded voice reminds of Bruce Springsteen. The slow, depressing songs ("Break My Heart Sweetly") have that old country-based broken-hearts theme. But there's also a lot of humor hidden inside of his music, John doesn't take himself too serious, it seems. "Nobody Gives a Damn About Songs Anymore" is a great song with an amazing short story inside. Both funny and a little dramatic.

In The Troes is a beautiful record. Stop reading, I'll stop typing anyway, and enjoy the record.
Favorite tracks: Blacklist, Break My Heart Sweetly, Gospel.

19-06-2014: Track Sage Francis - Vonnegut Busy

From Sage Francis' recently released new record Copper Gone, this is such a great hiphop track. Addictive as fuck!

16-06-2014: Live Live @West.37: Matthew de Zoete

The sign says it all: On July 7, 2014 Canadian singer-songwriter Matthew de Zoete will play a live performance right here in this beautiful city called Hoorn. Later this week he will start a 3 week tour through the Netherlands and he will probably be ending his trip with a concert in Hoorn. I am extremely happy to invite him over and I secretly hope to make a series out of this, but we'll see how this goes before we plan ahead. Check out his latest record Colour Film from 2012 below.

So 3 weeks from now there is a great musician coming to play his beautiful tunes. Wanna be there? Shoot me an email via Jeroen[AT]pluginbaby.nl and I'll put you on the list. Of course Matthew needs basic things like food, drinks and a place to sleep, so there will be a little entrance fee of € 10. It's a small living room, so please email me if you would like to attend!

The Facts:

Matthew de Zoete live
Date: 7-7-2014
Time: 20:00
Location: West 37, Hoorn
Entrance: € 10

16-06-2014: Track CANINE - Laughing

Can't seem to find anything about the artist or band behind this song, but it's been on their empty soundcloud-page for a month now and it's great. And in the end, that's all that matters.

13-06-2014: Track The Feel Bad Hit of the Winter - Mind The Monsters

An nice rocktrack that has me headbangin' every morning 3 days in a row now. Perfect noise for waking up.

10-06-2014: mixtape Well-Played 004: Wild Love

New MixTape, it's about fucking time! Most of these songs were unknown to me 48 hours ago, but I've listened to all of them at least a dozen times in this short period of time. Together with at least 15 more songs that were found in my overloaded inbox. I started deleting and saving songs and eventually decided to add these 7 songs together for a new MixTape: Wild Love.

'Feel Just Fine' by Dutch band Velvvet is such a great, addictive track. It makes me feel just fine (sorry, couldn't resist).

I have received several Ten Ton Man-songs over the last few months, but this is the 1st one that really stuck with me from the very 1st second. Great song.

'Swallow The Rival' is such a great song title it's no surprise the song itself is cool as fuck too. The Tablets have written a beautifully haunting song.

Ignore the video, Cold Comfort's 'When Love Grew Wild' is a great and powerfull song.

'The Virus In' by Broadwing is not really a very special song, but it's addictive in a way. The chorus just got stuck in my head this morning and I've been singing it all day at work..

The new Fitness Club Fiasco-track is called 'Hades', I haven't figured out the link between the title and the lyrics, but the song is a beauty!

Another one of my new favorite bands that have released a new song, 'Infant Hercules' by Cattle & Cane was released a little over 24 hours ago, but it's such a fine song.

Basically, there's just 7 beautiful pieces of music here. The 2 line-descriptions are all alike, but I prefer you listen rather than you read. Replay all? Yes please! (yeah, you really just have to click on all the videos yourself one after the other. Sorry about that, I'll put making a decent player or making a YT-playlist on my extensive to-do-list).
